Australian football, Burnie Dockers

Since I am in Burnie, I was playing Aussie football. I went twice a week to training. When I first showed up for training I already realised, the Burnie Dockers are such an amazing team and now I went today to the last training and yes, the Burnie Dockers are definitely an AMAZING team. Everyone encourage everyone and at the end of a trill we give everyone a high five. At the very start the trainings were a bit hard because I haven't done anything since April 2016...But with the time I got into it. We also have done a lot of running, like hills running, distance running or time running. It is very important to be able to run for a longer time. I have learned how to kick a football, how to do a handball, how to shaper, how to mark a ball, how to pick up a ball of the ground, I just learned how to play Australian football. I also learned that football isn't always about fun. When you are at training you need to be 100% focused because you need to learn all the weaknesses and the streghts of your team mates. You can't You need to know who can kick a football 50 meters and who can't kick it that far. You need to know who is fast, who isnt fast, you just need to know everything about your team mates. Even at training you need to give a 100%, even though you might not be keen to do some running. In game it is gonna be even harder. Maybe you quiet don't understnd now what I am actually mean because you haven't palyed it. But I must say it is the best team sport I have ever played! My team isn't just a team, we are a family and I am really sad to leave my dockers family. I love Australian football!!!

Boat Harbour

5 weeks ago I went with Sarah (she was an exchange student from Austria, but with another organisation) to Boat Harbour. Boat Harbour is one of the nicest beaches in Tassie, I think. It is around 20 min from Burnie, so I have been there heaps of times and I must say it is one if my favorites places in Tassie. Sarah and I spent a lot of time at the beach. We build a really nice sand castle and we also went surfing. The water was still freezing even though we have worn a wetsuit. We still enjoyed surfing! Also we started to practise our German again. Her German was better than mine cause she is actually talking German at home and not like me. I am still speaking Swiss German at home and i haven't spoken german for a year....So yes i was pretty bad, but at the end of the weekend I already was better than at the start....Ahahah it was hilarious to hear us talking in German. It was a fun weekend.

Safari 2017

The last 3 and a half weeks I've traveled with my District from Tassie and with 3 other districts from Queensland (a state of Australia) around Australia. It was an amazing experience, which probably was the highlight of everyones year! While this 3.5 weeks we were camping on camping grounds. We had 3 leader with us, Laura (she was actually our age. She came back in January from her Exchange in Switzerland:)), John (is a Rotarier) and Linda (is also a Rotarier). Then we had our bus driver Carl and our cook Bob. I loved our bus driver! He was absolutely awesome! For lunch we had every day Wraps. Some people got sick of it but I loved it. There were so many different things we could put into the wraps. there was Cheese, letters, tomatoes, different meat like ham, chicken and salami, potato salad, pasta salad, beetroot, cucumbers, corn, beans, tuna and probably some more things, which I can't remmember. I think the average of the sleep i've got while this trip was probably 6 hours. We got up between 4am and 6 am when we left the place. Otherwise we could sleep in till 7-8 am.

While this trip I got really good friends with Elisa ( from Italy) and Océane (from France). Océane and I found out, we are a really good couple for partner acrobatic!

That was the start...

...and that was the end

The bus life was sometimes really excited...

....and sometimes really unexcited!

Day 1: On the first day we got up early and flew from Launceston to Melbourne and Melbourne to Sydney. In Sydney we met all the other exchange student from Queensland. This afternoon we went straight into the city and visited the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. After that we went to the campsite and we got to know all the other students a bit better.

Day 2: The next morning we all woke up and everyone was FREEZING!!! None Person was prepared for the cold. It was actually the worst sleep I've ever had! It was probably 22°C while the day but the temperature sank to like 5°C at night time. Anyway, this day we went to Bondi beach!  At first we were walking a bit and then we went to the pool at Bondi Beach and at this pool a part of Dance Academy (a TV show) was played. At this Stage I found out that no one really knew Dance Academy and I just was there like: How can someone not know Dance Academy, that was my childhood! But alright then, I still was happy to have seen the pool and it was amazing! We didn't go for a swim in the Pool, we went for a swim in the sea. The Water compared to Tassie was warm! It was really nice. After the beach we went into town again and almost everyone went shopping for warm clothes because some people didn't have enough warm clothes. In the late afternoon we went on a Jet boat! It took us around the Harbour and also a bit out. It was a very fast boat and it also spun around. At the end we were really wet, but it was so much fun!
That is the pool from Dance academy which no one knows...how sad:(

Day 3: Everyone slept better because everyone has put on more clothes, but everyones was still cold. This Morning we got up at 6 am, packed all our stuff and pulled down the tents. At 7am was Brekkie and straight afterwards we left Sydney and we were on our way to Albury. We were the whole day in the bus. It was actually pretty boring because there was noting to do. We stopped somewhere near Albury and saw the dog on the tucker box, which was the most interesting thing we have seen that day. We just stayed the night in Albury.

How interesting it is!

Day 4: We got up early again and made our way to Melbourne. We arrived after lunch in Melbourne and set up our tents. After lunch we had some time in town. I went with Corri and Elisa (Girl from Italy). Corri and I have shown her Melbourne because we both have already been there and also because she left us for a few days again because she had a formal of her School! So we have shown her Melbourne in like 2 hours. We went down to the river where you could see all the high buildings and then we went to the art street. I really love Melbourne. I think it is one of the most beautiful Cities I have seen so far.

That is in the art street of Melbourne

Day 5: Today we had the whole day free time in Melbourne. We started at the Queens Victoria market. Afterwards we just went into the city centre again and we just were walking around. For lunch we stopped at an Italian restaurant. I had Gnocci! It was amazing an I've missed it. I have sent a picture to my friends in Tassie of it and they didn't even know Gnoccie... Omg How can you not know Gnocci??? So for all Tassie people who are reading this and have know idea what Gnocci are, it is like pasta just made out of potato and it is delicious!!! (Mami wenn ich heime chumm muesch es koche!!!) After Lunch we went down to the river and drank a chocolate frappe. I really do like the river area. I don't know but it kinda remains me of Basel (My City back home) with the Rhein (the River). We also made a stop in Target (like Primark I would say just a bit less Fashion but cheep). Corri and I bought a dressing gown (flauschige Badematel) and that was the best thing I've ever bought. Since I've bought it I was pretty warm at night times.

Our dressing gown

Day 6: Today we went to the great ocean rode. It was amazing!

These are called the 12 Apostel. There are just 7 Apostel left.

After the great ocean rode we went to Warnambool and set up the camp. after that we went somewhere to an Aboriginal guy, who told us something about the aboriginals, showed us what bush plants you can eat, played the Digeridoo and has shown us how to throw a Boomerang. That was interesting!

Day 7: Today we had a early start. we got up probably around 5 am and ate brekkie beside the rode. we drove to Adelaide. We arrived in the afternoon and had some free time in Adelaide. We spent the time with shopping and relaxing at the river. This night we slept in Cabins, how lucky we were! Everyone was really keen because no one really slept well and was really warm since the start. That night was amazing! you probably can't believe right now how everyone felt about to sleep in a normal bed!

Day 8: Today we had a sleep in till 8.00! It was a really good night. We left Adelaide at 10.00pm and headed off to Port Augusta. Port Augusta is a small town somewhere in Australia. On the way to Port Augusta our bus broke down and we were in the middle of nowhere. It was also really hot:( Carl thought he could fix it but after 10 minutes he told us we should get out of the bus because it is gonna get really hot in the bus without an air conditioning. So we were waiting for 3 hours in the heat. At the end a bus from Port augusta came and got us. carl stayed at our bus and tried to get another bus. we needed a bus that we could put the trailer with the kitchen behind the bus, so a bus from Newcastel (above Sydney) had to come. So we were stuck in Port Augusta for one day. This evening we got take away food because we didn't have the kitchen with us.

Waiting for the bus

Day 9: Today we had a sleep in again because we didn't have to get up to go to another place because remember we are still in Port Augusta. This day we went to the culture centre and spent some time in town afterwards. Yes Port Augusta was pretty exciting....We went back to the camp after lunch and spent our afternoon in the pool.

Corri and I are showing the right emotions of Port Augusta!

Day 10: Today the bus from Newcastel arrived in the morning. The driver drove through the night to get here in the morning. They told us we aren't gonna miss out of anything and we didn't, so that was good. We made our way to Coober Pedy and arrived there in the evening. Coober Pedy is a town in which 70% of the population lives underground. They live underground because in summer it is constantly 53°C. Underground it is constantly 21°C. Even in winter it is around 30°C. So they built their houses underground. They have shown us an example but it is actually pretty dark down there because there is no daylight, which reaches the rooms. Coober Pedy is also famous for their mining and their opals (Opals are colourful rocks). The most people in this town are miners. That night we slept underground and we were warm.

Opal in the wall

That is an example of an underground home

Day 11: Today we got up early so we could be at Kings Canyon in the afternoon to do the walk. we were supposed to to the walk at Kings Canyon that morning and driving to Uluru in the afternoon. The walk was very nice! After the walk we headed back to camp and made a camp fire. this night we didn't have to set up our tents because we slept under the stars. that was amazing. you could see all the stars so clearly because there was no light around us. you also could see the milky way, which was incredible and just amazing.

Day 12: Today we got up at like 4.30 am, packed our stuff as quick as we could, got into the bus and went back to sleep straight away. We arrived at Uluru at around 8am and we caught up our day. (For all who didn't get it how we caught up our day, because of we got up so early that morning we reached Uluru at 8 am and were early enough there to do the walks. we actually were supposed to arrive at Uluru last evening, but wouldn't have done something.) We ate brekkie in front of Uluru. How nice is that? After brekkie we went for a walk around Uluru. Yes you can walk up Uluru but it wouldn't be respectful becasue of the Aboriginals. They actually signed a form that it would be okay for tourists to visit Uluru and to walk up Uluru. But the Aboriginals aren't as educated as we so they couldn't even read it and din't know what they signed. So it is actually not illegal to walk up Uluru, it is just not respectful. Anyway you don't have to walk up Uluru that you can see the most amazing rock! For lunch we went to the camp site and guess what we didn't get wraps for lunch, we've got sausages and bread. After lunch we went to Kata Tjuta. Kata Tjuta isn't a rock but it looks similar to Uluru. We we've done there a walk as well and on our way back we made a stop at Uluru again and we observed the colour changing while the sunset. It was amazing! That night we slept under the stars again, which was as amazing as at Kings Canyon.

When we actually want Carl to take a picture of us in front of Uluru

Day 13: We left Uluru and Arrived in Alice spring late afternoon. On the way to Alice Spring we had the opportunity to ride a camel. That was funny!

After Tea the snake man came. At first he showed us some lizards and after that he came out with the snakes. So now something for everyone back home, especially for my mum, who is worried about snakes:) The likelihood to die from a snake in Australia is really small because their fangs (isch so wie e zahn wo irgendiwe sgift use bringt) aren't bigger than 3mm so when you are wearing long trousers and a snake wants to bite you then the fangs aren't even going through the trousers because the trousers are thicker than 3mm.  Also the snakes in Australia are the only snakes which can't see heat. That means when you would see a snakes while bushwalking then just don't move because they have the feeling you are a tree and they aren't gonna hurt you. Also if you get bitten by a snake, Australia got an antivenom of every snake in Australia. If you get bitten by a snake on your arm for example, then you have to put a bandage around your arm because if you aren't putting a bandage around your arm you are gonna die in  30 min time. With the bandage the poison takes longer to reach your heart and you would have time to get to a hospital and get the medicine. The average of people who are dying from a snake a year in Australia are 2 people. After he told us these facts about the snakes we showed us a rainbow snake, which was like 2-3 meters long. We all have done a circle and and the snake crept around the circle on our shoulders. Omg that was the most scary thing I've ever done. I was nervous! When the snake was on your shoulders, it felt like a massage but then it came down on my left shoulder and i got more scared and started to scream. Eeewwhhh!!! at the end it was alright because if I wouldn't have done it I would regret it now! But I had the worst night ever, because i Always was thinking and I was dreaming about snakes. Also the snake man told us when we would've been there one and a half month earlier then there would've been snakes everywhere. How creepy is that?

Smiling for the picture

How it actually was

Day 14: Today we visited some Aboriginals from Alice Spring. There was a man, who is working with the Aboriginals since ages. He was telling us about them and there history. The Aboriginals also cooked us some Kangaroo and that was delicious! They also have shown us some herbs and some other bush plants which you can eat. After that they have shown us their pantings and their stories behind all the pantings. One of the Aboriginals also taught us how to throw a boomerang. At lunch time we had free time in Alice spring. I went and bought a Digeridoo for my Mum! You are welcome:) We also went to the reptile centre and there we were talking about how hot it is. It was 30 degrees and the person from the reptile centre was like: "It is actually quiet a cool day today! Usually it is like 40 degrees and in Summer it can go up to 50 degrees." Our reaction was like: alright then, let's enjoy the cool day. After our free time in town we went to the school of air, which is the biggest classroom on earth. It is a school for students, who live in the outback, who live like 800ks away from a school. They teach there students over the computer with something like Skype I would say. They have the whole day school as well just instead of going to school and meeting their class mates they are sitting in front of the computer and are seeing what the teacher is doing. It is kinda a weird thought that something like that even exists. They have around 120 Students from grade 1 till grade 9. After grade 9 you have to move to a town to continue school.

Day 15: Today we drove from Alice Spring to Barkley and we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn. We officially enter the tropics. On the way to Barkley we made a stop at the Devil's Marble. That night we slept under the stars again!

Day 16: We had a early rise and headed off to mount Isa. Mount Isa is a mine town. There we had a mine tour, but it wasn't good. No one liked it. It was just boring. The thing was they used harder words, which we weren't used to, so no one really got it what they were talking about. But anyway, we went out for tea and had a steak an chips, which was very delicious. once again we slept under the stars.

Day 17: Today we stopped in Richmond (not Tassie Richmond) at the lake and went for a swim. But this lake was dirty as and there was so much plants in the water that when you swam the first 10 meters you still could feel them on your legs. That was very gross. After we went for a swim, we stood under a Mushroom where fresh water came out so we could wash us and feel a bit cleaner. After the swim we had lunch and we kept going with traveling. we arrived in charters tower late afternoon. It was very human.

Day 18: Today we got to cairns. everyone was very keen because all the past exchange Students told us that cairns was the best. We arrived in the Afternoon. We stayed 3 nights in a motel. How lucky we were! These 3 nights were the best nights ever. After we settled in we went into town. At first we went to the Lagoon. They build there a public swimming pool because you can't swim in the sea. You can't swim in the sea because of crocodiles, sharks, jellyfishes and something else, which is really small and you can't see it. I don't remember the name but you could die so better don't go swimming in the sea in cairns. After our swim we just were walking around town a bit and made a stop at a cafe and got a chocolate frappe. Later we went to the night market. There we got a massage for a half hour for just 25 dollars. That was good. We also bought us some friendship bracelet, which didn't las long. Mine already broke the next day and Elisas didn't last that much longer. For tea we went to a Thai restaurant. It was very delicious and it was very cheep!

Day 19: Today was fun! We went into the rainforest of Cairns. We visited at first a really big and strange looking tree! Afterwards we went to a nice looking lake. In this lake was living one single fresh water crocodile. Apparently fresh water crocodiles aren't eating humans, so it was save for swimming. It still was really scary to swim in this lake and to know there is living a crocodile in the lake. The water was so nice warm. We ate lunch at this lake and afterwards we continued our trip through the forest. We arrived at Mila Mila falls. It was a waterfall, which goes into a lake. The water was fresh but really enjoyable. This was a waterfall you could swim through. We were swimming to the otherside of the lake and climbed out of the lake. The rocks were slippery and we had to be careful. It was funny to swim through the waterfall. After this waterfall we went to another "waterfall" which you could slide down on the rock. That was so much fun. You just slid down a rock. This day was so much fun!!!

The lake with the crocodile

The flat rock which you can see on the pic was the slide

Day 20: Yayy we finally got to go to the Great Barrier Reef. We got early to the boat in cairns. On the boat we got our snorkeling gear for the day. For brekfast they got us eggs and bacon rolls. They made a presentation about the diving and the Great Barrier Reef and sadly it is dying. It is still amazing but when you just think about that the whole reef was once colourful then it is kinda sad. Anyway they told us when we are getting seasick then we should buy some tablets on board because they will save your day. They were telling us they have everyday people, who are throwing up and that they are used to it. So I thought I am gonna get some cause I don't wanna feel sick. I am so happy I took them because out there the sea was really rough. Even though I took the tablets i didn't feel well and there were a lot of people, who threw up. Once we arrive at the reef everyone started to feel better again. They've put us in different groups for scuba diving. While we weren't scuba diving we could go out snorkeling. Even snorkeling was very nice and you really could see the reef. Once we went scuba diving you actually could go closer and could take better pictures. They showed us what to do against the pressure equalisation. It was so nice just to be under water and do dive for a longer time. It was a really nice day out at great barrier reef!

I actually felt really sick when someone took this pic

Day 21: Today we had a very early rise: 4am and 4.15 am on the rode. We've packed the bus the evening before, so we just could get up and go into the bus and keep sleeping. We went to Airlie beach. because of we have done a early rise, we had some free time in the afternoon in Airlie beach. Airlie beach is a "beachie" (Apparently this word doesn't exist) town! It has a lot of surf and souvenirs shop. The town got a bit destroyed because they had really bad storms. The bad thing is you can't go swimming into the sea neither because of the jellyfishes. They also built a swimming pool, but it wasn't filled with water because of the storms they had. We just were walking around and went from shop to shop. After that we went to the beach and just relaxed till we had to go home.

Day 22: Today we went out with a jet boat around the islands of Airlie beach. The water looked amazing with a nice colour. At first we went To another reef snorkeling. They said it wasn't as nice as usual because of the storms they had. But it was still really nice, I mean I don't see a reef very often. After the snorkeling we went for a "bushwalk". She actually said bushwalk. We all were like: But we just have thongs with us, can we even do a bushwalk? It wasn't a bushwalk at all it was just a path, which leaded up to a lookout. The lookout was over Whithaven beach. This beach is such an amazing beach! It was incredible! After that short walk we went down to the beach and spent the whole afternoon there. I spent the whole afternoon in the water. The colour and the temperature was just amazing!!! That was a really nice day!

Look how amazing this beach looks like

Day 23: Today we went from Airlie beach further down to Rockhampton. We arrived in Rockhampton in the afternoon. After we set up our camp we went for playing bowling and Lazer tag. That was heaps of fun and it was our last evening together as a whole group.

Day 24: It already started in the morning with the goodbye. The first person got dropped off in Rockhampton. It was a really sad day! Once we arrived in Brisbane the tears got bigger for me because I had to say goodbye to Elisa and Océane. They were my two best friends from the other districts! We Tassie people  and 3 other student, who live a bit further away from the coast stayed the night in Brisbane.

Me, Eliza and Océane in the bus on our last day! (yes the picture is really bad, but i don't have a better one.)

Day 25: we got up early again to cat h our flight at 8 am in the morning. We flew from Brisbane to Melbourne. From Melbourne Erik and me flew to Launceston and Liisa, Corri and Jacky flew to Hobart. In Melbourne Erik and me had to say goodbye to Liisa because she is flying home on the 14th of June and we aren't gonna see her again. We really started to cry. But I am sure I am gonna see her again in my Life. Erik and me went into the plane with tears to Launceston. Yes and that was the end of my tour.

That was the last picture we took together as a group for a while now! I love you all!!! <3

It was an amazing tour with all of you guys!!! I really enjoyed it and now I gonna enjoy my last 6 weeks!
